Congratulations to…
Afrikindness is a programme founded by Bunmi Owolabi to address the significant barriers that African and minority ethnic families with Autistic children face. They provide essential resources, connect families with experts and offer emotional support. Families who are hesitant to come forward due to fear or judgement and isolation, gain support obtaining assessments and diagnoses and benefitting from parent groups and events.
Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA) is a small charity initiative that has become a driving force in suicide prevention by launching an online training course about suicidality in Autistic people. The training shares tips on recognising the signs, initiating conversations, and accessing support, sharing lived experiences and creating a new approach to difficult conversations. This course is a response to critical support gaps for Autistic people and has the potential to save lives and reduce feelings of isolation.
Women Beyond the Box is a diversity, equity and inclusion initiative that launched “The List”. By using the power of collective storytelling, they have been able to raise awareness around the influence of neurodivergent women in their work environments, thus encouraging other women to develop their confidence, own it and utilise it. The List is a unique careers resource that serves as a practical roadmap and career tool for neurodivergent women.
TIC Yorkshire is a charity providing support for neurodivergent individuals and their families. Founded by 2 mothers whose children were diagnosed with TS. They offer support groups for siblings, ADHD support and TIC/TS support. During lockdown they were able to support families through welfare check-ins, wellbeing packages, and online meetings, helping the community to stay connected during periods of change.
Lancashire Mind Together Workshops & Wellbeing Coaching consists of workshops that aim to increase awareness around neurodivergence and mental health, specifically for families. They provide information for children and parents, providing resources, deepening understanding and improving communication around the topic within families. By creating goals and working on practical well-being strategies, they hope to prevent thoughts of isolation.
