How to Assess for ‘Reasonableness’ in Reasonable Adjustment Requests
Date: Thursday 22 October 2026
Time: 12:30–13:30
Presenters: Dr Nancy Doyle and Gunjan Odedra
Reasonableness is a triangulation between the needs of the individual, the demands of the role and the resources available within the environment.
When jobs, environments and health change, so do adjustments.
Finding the right balance can be a tightrope for many employers, particularly when other team members have conflicting needs, where there are safety-critical constraints, or where resources are stretched.
In this session, we will discuss:
- The rationale behind many of the most popular workplace adjustments
- What we know – and don’t know – about their success rates, to help you weigh up cost and benefit
- The risks of lowering standards rather than providing the right scaffolding and support
- The importance of high-quality conversations rather than relying on tick lists
The aim of adjustments is to optimise performance so that a disabled person can thrive, succeed and progress in their role. This should be a win/win, but has sadly become more of a zero sum game in many workplaces.
In this webinar, Dr Nancy Doyle and Gunjan Odedra will explore how we can change that – helping employers approach reasonableness with greater confidence and create adjustments that work for both individuals and organisations.
