Looking for work

Research has shown that neurominorities are more likely to be long-term unemployed than their neurotypical peers, despite there being no difference in overall ability to work.

Helping you to access employment

At Genius Within, we have supported thousands of neurominorities to move into employment through national employability programmes. You can find out more about the programmes we work on here.

As shown on the BBC programme, Employable Me, we can work with you to identify your talents through positive assessments and translate them into viable career paths. By building on your strengths and tackling common issues such as memory, organisation and time management through coaching, we can help you to approach new work opportunities with professionalism and confidence. Working with your coach, you will also develop strategies to support you career planning which will enable you to find a job suited to your skills and abilities.

Once employed, we can work with you and your new employer to identify and implement reasonable adjustments through the Access to Work scheme which will help you be at your best in your new role. Find out more about the Access to Work Scheme here.

To find out which programmes are available in your area, contact the Work Coach at your local job centre, or to find out more about these programmes, visit the government website here.

Drop-in sessions

We understand that navigating the job market can be extremely stressful. Our specialist ‘Employability’ team are therefore hosting monthly drop-in sessions for neurominorities seeking employment. These are a chance for you to ask any questions you have about the job market, Access to Work, internships, or the Government Kickstart Scheme.

In the current climate, all upcoming drop-in’s will be held both online and by phone. Details about the next session will be published on our News & Events page and our social media channels.

Intern support

Internships are a useful route into employment as they offer practical, on the job learning. Following the launch of the Government Kickstart scheme in October 2020, there is an increase in the number of organisations taking on interns.

We are currently working with several leading employers to support their neurominority candidates through internship programmes. Details of the roles our clients are currently recruiting for can be found on our external vacancies page here.

If you are already involved in an internship programme, we can offer you support and mentoring throughout to help you identify what is working well, and address what is not, so that you can perform at your best.
